The "Invisible Tsunami" Warning!

The SARS in 2003 and bird flu in 2005 were wake up calls for WHO, governments and the public to be well prepared for the next pandemic!
I called the impending bird flu pandemic the "invisible tsunami" because it is invisible it will be more deadly and kill more people than a tsunami!

To be forewarned is to be forearmed. It is a well known fact that there is there are no known cures for these deadly and contagious viruses and those who survived these viruses had a strong immune system!

There were three important lessons:

1. The WHO, government leaders and medical and support systems must be well prepared for the next pandemic.

2. Nations must co-operate and share information fast and effectively to contain the pandemic and reduce the number of deaths.

3. People worldwide must take responsibility for their health now
by boosting up their immune system which is their only hope for survival in an epidemic or pandemic.

The time to build up your immune system is now and everyone should take responsibility for their health because by doing this we can greatly reduce the number of deaths and reduce the spread of the viruses. We all should do our part to write to our governments and one way you can contribute is to make people more aware of the dangers of the impending pandemic.

The WHO has already issued several public warnings and the next trillion dollar question is “How prepared are the governments, medical practitioners and hospitals for the next pandemic?

"It's inevitable, say government officials: a pandemic will strike the United States and the impact will be profound."

"Pandemics happen," said HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt in a teleconference today. "They happened before, and they'll happen again. If it isn't the H5N1 [bird flu] virus, it'll be another virus."

"A focus on one antiviral is misplaced," said HHS Secretary Leavitt. "There's no certainty that they'll be effective."

Hundreds of thousands of people died in the tsunami in December 26, 2004 and many were not warned of the impending disaster and especially children they were not educated on what is a tsunami? Many children died because they were not warned on the signs of a tsunami, there were lots of children still playing at the beach when the tide suddenly receded and fishes were found stranded on the shores and children and adults who were ignorant about the signs of a tsunami just stood there and watched!

Our duty, responsibility and moral obligation is to educated people about the impending pandemic which I call the "invisible tsunami" because many people still do not know about it and because it is a virus and cannot be seen with the eyes it will spread faster than a tsunami and kill millions of people! The time to be prepared is now and if you are a leader or head of an agency that is responsible for preparing the country for the impending pandemic, my trillion dollar question to you is "How prepared are you and your team for the next flu pandemic?

History repeats itself again and again and we have fair warnings from SARS and the recent bird flu outbreaks to prepare ourselves to save millions of lives and the next trillion dollar question is "How much do you value your life and the lives of your loved ones and friends and what action are you taking to warn people and the governments to take action to prepare themselves for the next pandemic?

You can do your part by circulating this article, writing to the leaders of your country and hopefully the leaders will be wise enough to take more responsibility in ensuring the medical and support systems are ready for the next pandemic! Everyone's live is at stake here and we are talking about millions of lives which include your loved ones and friends! If you are a president or prime minister of a country ask yourself this important question: "Can you sleep in peace every night knowing that you have done your best to protect your people from the impending pandemic?"
